New man Onana assisted for Trabzonspor's goal

From Antony to Scott McTominay and even Anthony Elanga, there are more and more examples of players who breathe easier after leaving Manchester United. One of those could be Andre Onana, whose performances at the start of his new career chapter suggest that his form might finally be on the rise.

On his Trabzon debut, despite a loss to Fenerbahce, he was one of the best players on the pitch, and in his second match he even set up a goal!? The Black Sea side, in their home game against Gaziantep in the sixth round of the Super Lig, recorded their third straight match without a win (1–1). And although the Cameroonian goalkeeper didn’t manage to keep a clean sheet, he still contributed to securing a point — with an assist! In the 70th minute, Onana came out to collect a misplaced cross from an opposing player, picked up the ball, and then launched a long pass across the entire field into the opponent’s half, finding Paul Onuachu. The tall Nigerian striker held off his marker, charged toward goal, rounded Gaziantep keeper Mustafa Bozan, and slotted the ball into an empty net for the equalizer.

Up to that point, the hosts had been struggling to break down their opponent’s resistance despite piling on massive pressure. The stats show that Trabzon attempted 26 shots at Bozan’s goal, six of which were on target. In the end, it was enough only for a single point — their 11th of the season so far. Gaziantep, on the other hand, managed to claim the same point with just one shot on target. To be fair, there wasn’t much Onana could do there, as Kevin Rodrigues struck a brilliant volley from about 20 meters out after a corner delivery.
