Ndege, who began his football journey straight out of high school and featured for Tusker FC in the Kenyan Premier League, believes the burden of responsibility now lies with the players.

As far as preparations go, the Federation and government have done their part. The rest is up to the players,” Ndege told Mozzart Sport.

“This group has everything they need. They’ve been supported fully; it’s time to deliver.”

The FKF CEO noted that individual effort, discipline, and commitment will be the difference between success and failure in the continental tournament, which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania from August 2 to 30.

Drawing from his own experience as a player, the two-time KPL champion recalled the fierce competition for places at Tusker, especially during a season that saw the brewers face Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League.

I had to fight hard to unseat Daniel Agina at right back. That kind of personal drive is what these boys need to tap into,” he said during a visit to the national team’s training session at Nyayo Stadium on Wednesday, July 23.

Kenya will begin their CHAN campaign against two-time champions DR Congo on August 3 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Benni McCarthy’s men will then take on Angola on August 7 before facing Morocco on August 10. Their final Group A match will be against Zambia on August 17.

The final will be staged at Kasarani on August 30, and expectations are high that Kenya will not only feature but also fight to lift the trophy in front of home fans.
