Two days after the unfortunate incident, the club finally released a public statement

Napoli is a really a special club. Only in a club like this, you can see that a social media department is mocking their best player and then, instead of dismissal, they get a chance to apologize to the player, and they do so, but without actually apologizing! That’s exactly what happened tonight, when the club finally released a public statement, in which they said they never intended to mock Victor Osimhen, but the word ‘apologize’ was never mentioned. The problem is, that’s exactly what the Nigerian striker expected and now, when he didn’t get an official apology, the question is what will he do.

Calcio Napoli, in order to avoid any exploitation on the topic, specifies that it never intended to offend or make fun of Victor Osimhen, the club's technical asset. To demonstrate this, during the summer training camp, the Club firmly rejected every offer received for the attacker's transfer abroad. It represents a fact of common experience that on social media, in particular on TikTok, expressive language has always been created with lightness and creativity, without having had, in the case involving Osimhen, any intention of mockery or derision. In any case, if Victor perceived any offence towards him, this was not what the club intended” reads the statement.

So, the club basically said that TikTok has a specific form or communication where this kind of language is allowed and that’t it. Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda threatened legal action against Napoli, while Osimhen removed all images of himself in the Partenopei jersey from his own social media accounts after the incident which took place two days ago. He was not happy when he arrived at the team hotel before the Udinese game, he didn’t celebrate a goal he scored in that game, so his status is still up in the air.

And since there have been various Chelsea rumors, who could, in theory, go after the player in January transfer window, the biggest low cost air company Ryanair used their social media account in a much more creative way than Napoli, and already embedded Osimhen’s photo in their advert for flights from Napoli to London, also on TikTok.
