Beyond the league, Nairobi United are also preparing for a demanding year that includes continental football, having secured a place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages

Nairobi United technical director Salim Ali says his side is targeting nothing short of three points when they face Kenya Police FC in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) clash on Monday, January 19.

The match will be staged at the Police Sacco Grounds from 4 pm.

Ali said the club’s immediate objective is to win all their matches in hand and close the gap on the league’s leading pack.

“Our objective is to win all our matches in hand so that we can catch up to the leading pack,” said Ali.

Nairobi United currently sit seventh on the table with 23 points, ten behind joint leaders Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.

The league newcomers, however, have played only 14 matches, two fewer than most teams above them.

United continued their upward climb with a 2-0 victory over Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) at Kasarani Stadium, thanks to goals from Duncan Omalla and Ovella Ochieng on Thursday last week.

“It was all about managing the game because defending long balls can be quite tiresome. We were determined to starve them of second balls, and the boys quickly adapted to the plan, which allowed us to control the middle of the park and go forward,” said the former Mathare United tactician.

Ali also welcomed the team’s improved defensive showing.

I am happy that, for the first time, we have finished a match with a clean sheet. It shows the improvements we are making,” he added.

Beyond the league, Nairobi United are also preparing for a demanding year that includes continental football, having secured a place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages.

The club is expected to play Tanzania's Azam FC on Sunday, in a match that is expected to test the depth and structure of the side.

To prepare for the domestic and continental workload, Nairobi United have been active in the January transfer window.

The club has released nine players as part of a squad restructuring process aimed at balancing experience and competition for places.

Several new faces have since been added to the squad to strengthen key areas, with the technical bench keen to build a group capable of sustaining performance levels across multiple competitions.

The club has maintained a cautious approach to recruitment, focusing on squad balance rather than wholesale changes.

Kenya Police, meanwhile, will head into the match under a new technical bench led by immediate former Nairobi United head coach Nicholas Muyoti.

He will be assisted by John Baraza and Isaac Njeri.

The Law Enforcers, who are winless in their last five rounds, still have a game in hand against Bandari.
