In a ruling dated Friday, 6 February, the tribunal stayed the decision made by FKF’s Leagues and Competitions Committee on Friday, 30 January 2026, pending further directions.

The orders follow an application filed by Nairobi United through their representative, Nelson Odaya, who swore an affidavit on Thursday, 5 February 2026, under a certificate of urgency, prompting the tribunal to intervene.

In its ruling, the tribunal certified the matter as urgent and issued a temporary injunction halting both the implementation of FKF’s earlier decision and the related disciplinary proceedings.

“Upon perusal of the Memorandum of Appeal dated 5th February 2026, the Notice of Motion of even date, the Supporting Affidavit of Nelson Odaya sworn on 5th February 2026 and the Certificate of Urgency filed herein, the Tribunal hereby certifies the matter as urgent and issues a temporary injunction staying the decision of the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee of 30th January 2026 in respect of the abandoned Football Kenya Federation League Match No. 132 between Nairobi United FC and Gor Mahia FC until the next mention date.

"The Tribunal further issues a temporary injunction staying the proceedings of the FKF Disciplinary Committee in FKF Disciplinary Case No. 05 of 2025, Football Kenya Federation versus Nairobi United Football Club, pending mention and further directions,” read the ruling.

The tribunal also directed Nairobi United to serve the respondents and the interested party with the Memorandum of Appeal, Notice of Motion, accompanying documents and the tribunal’s orders by 2:00 p.m. on Monday, 9 February 2026.

The respondents and interested parties have been granted until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, 12 February 2026, to file and serve their responses, with oral submissions allowed owing to the urgency of the matter.

The matter is scheduled to be heard on Friday, 13 February 2026, with the tribunal allowing oral submissions due to the urgency of the case.

The dispute arises from the FKF Premier League fixture between Nairobi United and Gor Mahia played on Sunday, 21 December 2025, which was abandoned in the 58th minute following crowd unrest and safety concerns at the venue.

Subsequently, FKF’s Leagues and Competitions Committee ruled on Friday, 30 January 2026, to award one point to each side, a decision Nairobi United has now challenged before the tribunal.

The SDT’s ruling effectively freezes the implementation of FKF’s determination, leaving the fate of the abandoned fixture unresolved as the matter awaits further mention and determination before the tribunal.
