The match, billed as a battle between resilience and efficiency, ultimately tilted in favour of the 2024 finalists, KCB, who capitalised on a decisive lapse to edge out the holders.

For Nairobi United, it marked the end of an otherwise spirited cup run that had promised another deep push toward silverware.

Head coach Godfrey 'Solo' Oduor cut a reflective figure after the final whistle, choosing to focus on performance positives despite the painful exit.

“It was generally a good game, though not as we had expected. We thank God for it anyway, despite the loss,” Oduor said, striking a tone of composure rather than frustration.

Oduor was quick to identify the decisive factor: inefficiency in front of the goal. Nairobi United carved out multiple opportunities over the course of the match but failed to convert, a shortcoming that ultimately proved fatal in knockout football.

“It’s a matter of chances not being converted for us. We did create many chances. We won’t relent, however, and as coaches we will continue sharpening the boys.”

That attacking bluntness contrasted sharply with KCB’s clinical edge, underlining a recurring theme in cup competitions—where margins are slim, and punishment is swift.

The defeat closes the curtain on what had been a dominant cup campaign for Nairobi United up to this stage. Their journey included emphatic and commanding performances:

A comfortable win over L15 FC in the Round of 64, an 8-0 demolition of BMC All Stars in the Round of 32, and a composed 2-0 victory against top-flight rivals Posta Rangers in the Round of 16.

With cup hopes dashed, Oduor is already redirecting his squad’s attention toward the FKF Premier League, where Nairobi United currently sit sixth. Notably, the team is unbeaten in their last five league matches, a run that suggests stability and potential for a strong finish.

“Focus now shifts to our next assignment, which is the league. I want the boys to finish on a high even if the title is beyond reach,” he added.

While the league title may be slipping out of grasp, a top finish remains a realistic and motivating target for a side eager to end the season on a positive note.

Oduor also extended respect to their conquerors, acknowledging KCB’s performance with grace.

“We thank KCB for the good game; they deserved the win, and we wish them all the best in their next fixture in the cup.”

For Nairobi United, the challenge now lies in translating their cup form into consistent league results.

As the Mozzart Bet Cup moves into its decisive stages, one thing is clear: the crown will have a new owner this season.
