Four of the six new faces in the team named on the match day squad for the opening round made their maiden appearances for the club and in the premier league

Four Nairobi City Stars players are over the moon after having a taste of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League for the first time ever.

Simba wa Nairobi played to a barren draw with Muhoroni Youth at the Kasarani Annex in their first round of the 2023/24 FKFPL campaign, a season they will be hoping to shake off the ghosts from the previous campaign.

Center-back Wycliffe Omondi, striker Brian Nyambane, winger Gilbert Abala, and defensive midfielder Brian Omondi, all of whom joined City Stars before the start of the campaign, made their maiden topflight appearance.

While Wycliffe played the entire length of the game, Nyambane, Abala, and Brian Omondi were introduced in the second half in different instances.

The four were part of the six new faces that were named on the match day squad last weekend, with only former Polisi Tanzania center-back Sosthenes Idah and goalkeeper Edwin Mukolwe being unused.

“My debut went very well, I liked it. It’s now to build up on it and push the team to wins. I look forward to many more games at this level,” former Kibera Blackstars player Brian Omondi said as quoted on the club's website.

Despite it being his first-ever premier league game, Wycliffe revealed that he felt comfortable throughout the length of the match.

“It’s a whole new level but it came with no pressure at all. I felt comfortable though it was my first premier league game,” said Wycliffe who joined from Migori Youth.

On his part, Abala, who joined from Busia Sugar FC, is looking forward to getting more minutes that will help him showcase what he has.

“I wouldn’t say much of it because I came as a very late substitute. I didn’t get enough minutes to showcase what I could do but even then, I am hoping for more playtime in the games to come,” he said.

The other debutant, Nyambane, was irked for not picking up maximum points in the game and remains hopeful of getting more minutes under his belt.

“I enjoyed that first game in the few minutes that I received. Too bad we did not pick a win. I hope to get more games and minutes as we go along as we go for wins,” said the former Narok-based Division Two side Total Spurs man.
