Mwendwa has 11 assists this season in both the league and cup

After enduring a desultory start to life at AFC Leopards, speedy winger Harrison Mwendwa has credited his late season bloom to finally understanding Patrick Aussems' tactics.

Mwendwa looks to have rediscovered his impeccable form that earned him a move from Kariobangi Sharks to Ingwe at the start of the campaign as he notched three assists in the 3-1 win over Vihiga United over the weekend.

The skillful winger was on the periphery at Ingwe in the first half of the season with his season hampered by injuries and was out of favour under Anthony Kimani’s tenure.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Mwendwa revealed that his inspired performances at the tail end of the season have been down to finally mastering Aussems’ philosophy.

“The good performances have been down to having a piece of mind and understanding the coach’s philosophy. The coach has also been giving us rests which have come in handy, we train two days and rest one day,”

“Form is temporary and class is permanent, I had to adapt to playing to the right which has been challenging because I have lost that scoring touch but I’m working on finding a way to score from the left,” said Mwendwa.

Despite not featuring regularly for Ingwe, Mwendwa has chipped in with nine assists in the league and notched another two in the FKF Cup where Leopards were lost to arch-rivals Gor Mahia.

The former Mathare United midfielder added that the club has shifted its attentions to next season where he is confident Ingwe can mount a serious title challenge in Aussems’ first full season in charge.

“I know AFC Leopards will be serious contenders for the title next season because our coach was did not get a pre-season with us and once he does we will be in better shape to challenge for the title,”

“I think what affected us this season is the financial struggles and missing out on a continental football, right now there is nothing to play for we are putting our attention to next season,” added Mwendwa.

The former Kariobangi Sharks winger has however been linked with a move to Zambian side Kabwe Warriors.
