Lack of a proper pre-season with Kabwe Warriors has led Mwendwa to struggle adapting to Zambian football

Former AFC Leopards pacy winger Harrison Mwendwa became the latest Kenyan to cross borders to Zambia as he joined Kabwe Warriors back in mid-August.

Kabwe Warriors ply their trade in the Zambian Super League and are currently in the CAF Confederation Cup after finishing fourth last season.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Mwendwa revealed that adapting to life in Zambia has not been a walk in the park as he arrived when the team was putting the final touches in their pre-season campaign.

“Settling in Zambia has been hard because I came when they were almost done with their pre-season. Other than that, it’s been great month since I moved here and I am now adapting to the way of life. It’s almost like Kenya but life is a bit slow here,” said Mwendwa.

The 26-year-old midfielder failed to hit the heights he displayed at Kariobangi Sharks while at AFC Leopards but had a strong finish to the season, providing a hat-trick of assists against Vihiga United.

Despite only featuring in 21 games last season in both cup and league matches, Mwendwa posted impressive stats as he registered a combined total of 11 assists and one goal.

Mwendwa went on to compare the level of football in Kenya and Zambia adding that he is yet to meet any of the Kenyan contingents in Zambia but linked up Kenneth Muguna whose Azam FC held pre-season training in the country.

“The level of football is not the same, Zambian coaches are serious with training. They prefer running here if you can’t run you can’t play,”

“I haven’t linked up with any Kenyan contingent yet but I have been with Muguna of Azam once we played a friendly against them. I plan to meet with Duke Abuya soon since he is the one closer also Jesse were,” added Mwendwa.

Kabwe Warriors have all to play for in the second leg of the 1st Preliminary Round after settling for a barren draw against Centre de Formation de Football Andoharanofotsy (CFFA) of Madagascar.
