Mwale recounts on Ulinzi's defensive solidity

Mwale has featured in all games this season for the Soldiers.

Ulinzi Stars defender Harun Mwale has revealed the secret behind the club's compact nature in defence that has seen them concede few goals in the current campaign.

The Soldiers were also mean in the previous campaign, letting in only 29 goals with only KCB, Tusker, and Bidco United conceding fewer goals.

In the current season, the Stephen Ocholla-led side has let in only six goals after 8 rounds of matches, with only Kakamega Homeboyz, Posta Rangers, and Gor Mahia conceding less.

According to the left-back, the defenders at the club have perfect chemistry having played together for a long time which helps them bring out the best in everyone and seal their errors as a team.

"As defenders, most of us have played together for a long time apart from two defenders who joined us recently. That has helped us know the strengths and weaknesses of each other so we know how to cover each other when need be. That is why we are that compact at the back. On top of that, we have a good goalkeeper who is the ultimate last line of defense and guides us well," Mwale said.

The former St Joseph Youth player has featured in every match for the Soldiers this season and attributes that to putting in the extra effort apart from the regular team training to ensure that he is on top of his game.

"It is all about working hard and going the extra mile apart from what the team and the coach do during the regular training. Having the extra training also helps keep some injuries at bay," he added.

Ulinzi Stars started off their campaign on a high note, going for a six-match unbeaten streak which was ended by Wazito earlier in the month, before being condemned to their second consecutive loss by KCB.

They will be seeking to bounce back to winning ways when they host struggling Vihiga Bullets at Nakuru on Saturday.
