The two teams shared the spoils in a largely off colour clash
Newbies Murang'a Seal forced a goal-less draw against Gor Mahia in an FKF Premier League game staged at the Moi Kasarani Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Heading into the game, both teams were tied at 20 points, but a superior goal difference put Gor Mahia in the second position and Murang’a Seal a position lower.
The game was hyped all week by both clubs ahead of their first-ever league meeting, with both promising to pick maximum points from the duel dubbed a derby as they are both backed by the same sponsor.
Gor Mahia’s day started with the launch of their newly acquired bus. The event that happened at the Moi Kasarani was graced by ICT CS Eliud Owalo, who acquired the bus, club management, club legends, some players, and fans. The new bus will ease the team’s transport challenges after the older one was auctioned.
Gor looked slightly better in the first half, creating a number of chances. Seal, on the other hand, looked dangerous on the break, with their pacy duo of Titus Kapchanga and Eric Balecho keeping the Gor Mahia attackers on their toes for the better part of the game.
Benson Omala thought he had scored his seventh goal of the campaign in the 31st minute, only for his celebrations to be cut short by an offside flag, much to the disappointment of the player, who on Friday got included in the Harambee Stars squad that will play Gabon and Seychelles in the World Cup qualifiers later this month.
Goalkeeper Boniphas Munyasa was called into action to deny the striker again in the 36th minute after a swift break from the record league champions. At the hour mark, Gor threw away another good chance, with Omala heading over the bar with the goal at his mercy. Boniface Omondi missed a sitter in the 85th minute with the goal at his mercy.
In the end the points were shared as Gor recorded a joint-high sixth draw of the season.
Next for Gor Mahia is an away match against Muhoroni Youth FC, while Murang’a Seal will play KCB FC at home.
