Mourinho suffers another disappointment as Man United beat Tottenham in London

Reading Time: 4min | Sun. 11.04.21. | 20:39

Fully deserved victory for the Red Devils

At the new White Hart Lane Jose Mourinho and his Tottenham Hotspur failed to redeem themselves after a disappointing draw against Newcastle. Mourinho's former team were better in North London - final score 1-3.

First half was a lullaby, second half completely opposite! Eventually Red Devils were more composed and managed to convert their opportunities into three points.

First goal chance worth of waiting happened in the 34th minute - Edinson Cavani scored as he latched on to a pass inside the penalty box and fired a perfect low shot that went into the middle of the goal. However, referee Chris Kavanagh went over to the pitchside monitor and disallowed the goal due a foul on Son moments before Cavani placed the ball inside the net.

Just a couple of minutes after - Son was under the spotlight again. This time because of the goal he scored. Lucas teed up Heung-Min Son inside the box, and the Korean kept his cool to find the bottom left corner.

First half ended with nothing else to mention. Then the second half brought us football with a totally different approach.

A couple of chances to open up the half - in the 49th minute a good save from Lloris as Shaw's pinged pass to the right picked out the run of Wan-Bissaka. The right-back took a shot, but it went straight at the waiting goalkeeper.

Lloris was busy again in the 56th minute - McTominay wanted to make up for United's first goal being ruled out, and almost did. Wan-Bissaka squared the ball for him at the top, but his curling effort was pushed away well by Lloris.

Just a minute later - there was nothing the Frenchman could do. Fernandes, Rashford and Fred combined wonderfully in a small space just outside the area, with the latter slotting Cavani through. Tottenham threw their hands up for offside but Cavani was well on-side with the United striker seeing his effort palmed away by Lloris. Luckily for the Devils, Fred was lurking to slot home into the open net.

In the 73rd minute a big save for Henderson at the near post - Kane turned himself around Wan-Bissaka and managed to get his shot away - but the Man Utd goalkeeper was waiting at the post to see the ball away with his feet once again.

Chances kept coming, mostly for the visitors. They simply wanted it more. And they got their reward in the 79th minute.

Wan-Bissaka picked out Fernandes on the right wing, who in turn found Greenwood by nutmegging Reguilon. A swinging cross from Greenwood and Cavani was there with a leaping header to fire home.

In the 84th minute Tottenham almost equalized - the corner pinged off Pogba's head on the way through, with Cavani there to clear the ball onto the post. It was a certain goal for Kane just behind surely, but the striker did just enough.

Tottenham kept attacking, they couldn't cope with the fact they spilled another lead. they did the same against Newcastle and United not only equalized against Mourinho's side but turn it all around.

United scored their third just before the final whistle, in the 96th minute. Mason Greenwood found himself in a very promising position after getting on the end of a brilliant pass and fired the ball inside the right post to make it 1-3.

It just was not enough from the hosts in this match and United deservedly take all three points and hold on to that second place with 63 points. Spurs see 49 next to their name and are 7th.

Mourinho has suffered 10 league defeats in a single season for the first time in his entire managerial career. Will Mourinho and Kane stay in North London for the next campaign?
