Most EPL goals in a season by a Brazilian: Mighty Bee and a name no one expected

Reading Time: 4min | Sun. 11.01.26. | 12:55

Until the current campaign, no Brazilian player scored more than 15 goals in a single Premier League season, and then, Igor Thiago appeared in Brentford's jersey and wrote history

Robinho, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho, Oscar, Willian, Lucas Moura, Gabriel Jesus... The list of high-quality Brazilian forwards who played in the Premier League is long. However, could you name a player from this South American country who scored the most goals in a single EPL season?

Hint: his name is not on this renowned list.

Until a couple of days ago, Matheus Cunha, Gabriel Martinelli, and Roberto Firmino had topped the list, each having bagged 15 goals in a season. Yet, from now on, the top belongs to only one man - Igor Thiago!

Thanks to his brace against Sunderland three days ago, the robust Brentford striker reached the tally of 16 goals in the ongoing campaign, dethroning the trio mentioned above. At the same time, the Bees climbed to the fifth league position, although many predicted they'd be relegated.

Thiago scored 45% of their EPL goals in the campaign and is the most deserving for their historic result. He is currently the second league's top scorer behind Erling Haaland (who found the net 20 times), and he bagged 16 goals in only 21 rounds, meaning that he has 17 more matches to improve his tally and set an arduous task for all of his compatriots who play or will play in England's top flight.

Thiago joined Brentford in July 2024 from Club Brugge for €33 million, turning out to be one of the best transfers in the club's history. However, the Bees are hardly the final step in his development, as the chase for his signature will undoubtedly start as soon as the June Transfer Window begins, and his price will be much higher than the one the London side paid a year and a half ago.
