The duel between Atletico Mineiro and Cruzeiro became so chaotic that it was impossible to tell who was fighting whom
Every football fan will tell you that a match without passion, fire, and little taunts between the rivals isn't a joy to watch. However, some boundaries must be set and respected. Something that wasn't done in Brazil last night.
Namely, during the clash between Cruzeiro and Atletico Mineiro, the players sparked a massive brawl, and at one point, the situation became so chaotic that it was impossible to tell who was fighting whom.
The entire havoc started deep in added time (at 1-0 for Cruzeiro) when the home team's forward Christian kicked the rivals' custodian Everson, even though the keeper had already gotten to the ball first and was on the ground.
The goalie did not like it at all, confronting the opponent, whose teammates shortly joined the fight, trying to defend their buddy. At one point, they even pushed Everson into the net, but the situation seemed to have settled down.
But not for long!
The genuine escalation came in the following minutes, when both sides' staff members and benched players rushed onto the pitch. Even the biggest star of the game, Atletico Mineiro's Hulk, didn't avoid physical altercation, punching Cruzeiro's Lucas Romero.
After the brawl ended, the referee Matheus Delgado had his hands full, as he showed 23 red cards - the absolute record of Brazilian football!
The disciplinary sanctions for both Cruzeiro and Atletico Mineiro will be determined in the coming days, and they will undoubtedly be as harsh as it gets.
