After his stint in Asia, the former Red Devil will join his former teammate at the Brazilian club
Former Manchester United and England international Jesse Lingard has sealed a switch to Brazil after agreeing a deal with Corinthians.
The midfielder departed FC Seoul at the end of last year once his contract ran out, bringing an almost two-year spell in South Korea to a close. During that time, he featured in 67 matches and scored 19 goals for the club.
Despite attracting interest from several teams, Lingard ultimately chose a move to the Brazilian powerhouse. Wolves, Genoa and West Ham — where he enjoyed an impressive loan stint in 2021 — were among the clubs monitoring his situation, but the former United midfielder decided to continue his career outside Europe.
At Corinthians, he will also reunite with another ex-Manchester United player, Memphis Depay.
The Brazilian side confirmed that the 33-year-old has signed a contract running until the end of the year, with an option to extend it for another 12 months if certain performance targets are achieved.
Speaking after completing the move, Lingard shared his excitement about the reception he received. "First, I saw the fans at the airport saying 'Go, Corinthians! Go, Corinthians!'," he told the club. "There is a lot of passion from the fans, which is wonderful to see. The players welcomed me with open arms, the coach, the director, it was great to meet them. My first impressions: very happy, I can't wait to play."
Lingard made more than 230 appearances for Manchester United during his career and earned 32 caps for England before 2022. In his final season with Seoul, he registered 13 goals in 41 outings.
His last appearance for the Korean side came on December 10, when he found the net in a 1–1 draw against Melbourne City during the group stage of the AFC Champions League Elite.
The midfielder’s last spell in England ended in 2023 after a one-year stay with Nottingham Forest. Although he was part of England’s squad that reached the World Cup semi-finals in 2018, Lingard has not represented his national team since 2021.
