Moroccan Mehdi Benatia puts an end to his career

At the age of 34, former defender retires from football

Ex-Morocco international Mehdi Benatia can boast with quite a resume. Starting his professional career with Olympique Marseille in 2005, he continued his career representing many clubs - among all big names such as Bayern Munich and Juventus. Today, one of the greatest Moroccan football players of the 21st century announced that he has finished his playing career.

Benatia also wore the shirt of Roma between 2013 and 2014 and featured in 33 games with scoring 5 goals.

The Moroccan stopper made the following announcement on Instagram.

"After more than 15 years of honest and faithful service to football, after playing at the highest level, in the biggest competitions, I decided to end my career. Thanks to everyone who made it possible for me to build on this long journey. I want to thank all the clubs I went through, from Marseille, Lorient, Tours, Clermont, Udinese ... ", said Benatia.

After his Roma spell he wore the shirt of the German giants followed by the black and white colours of Juventus. Two years ago, Benatia went to the Middle East, where he defended the colors of Al Duhail and then signed for Turkish Karagumruk this summer. He there decided to retire at the age of 34, after six games played for the Turkish side.

Mehdi Benatia played 66 games and scored two goals for the Moroccan national team.
