Monyi braced for Tusker return after missing twelve league games

The Tusker right back last played in January against Rangers

After missing the past twelve league rounds, Tusker right back Kevin Monyi is finally ready to return to the starting team when the league resumes next month.

The hard-tackling defender last featured for the brewers in January 9 when they fell 1-0 to Posta Rangers at Thika Stadium.

Monyi has had to contend with life on the substitutes bench with fiery coach Robert Matano preferring the budding Jimmy Mbugua and Daniel Sakari who has been unlucky with injuries also featuring.

Players often frown at lack of game time but for Monyi, he says the decision by the technical bench to overlook him came at a time when he needed a rest after playing a total of 31 matches last season.

“I have had sufficient time to rest and recoup energy after playing more than thirty matches last season. I played 28 league matches and three in Cup and considering that there was limited time rest time after the campaign ended, it was only right for the technical bench to consider others for playing time. I have also had time to heal from the small and recurring knocks,” he said.

However, with the league set to resume early next month, the former Western Stima man says he is now focused on reclaiming his place in the first team. Monyi will be forced to break sweat for playing time as the Tusker defender has been leaking fewer goals recently.

I am ready to fight for my place in the team again. There is competition for playing time which makes the team strong and also goes a long way in improving a player,” he added.
