For now, the race remains open, but all indications suggest MOFA hold the upper hand in the battle for the former Kenya youth international's signature

National Super League side MOFA FC are leading the race to sign former Kenya U20 international Brian Wesa Wepo as the club intensifies its squad restructuring ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Wepo, a highly-rated right-back who previously represented Kenya at the youth level, is currently unattached after spending time with Darajani Gogo FC, where he featured during the first half of last season.

The defender has attracted interest from several clubs following his availability, with NSL rivals Equity FC and FKF Premier League outfit Murang’a Seal also understood to be keen on securing his services. Wepo has previously played for clubs including KCB, Nzoia Sugar and Sofapaka, while also earning recognition during his stint with Darajani Gogo.

However, sources close to MOFA indicate that the Nyanza club have emerged as a frontrunner in the pursuit of the experienced full-back as they seek to mount another promotion challenge next season.

A source close to the club revealed that Wepo has been on MOFA’s radar for a considerable period and remains a key target for the incoming technical bench.

“Brian is a player we have monitored for a long time. We know his qualities, his experience and what he can bring to a team with promotion ambitions. The incoming technical bench has looked at several options and Wepo is among the players they would really want as part of next season’s campaign,” the source reveals.

MOFA had an underwhelming second half of the season and failed to mount a serious promotion charge. This, according to the source, is something Kenya international Michael Olunga, who sponsors the team, is keen to change. MOFA intend to challenge for promotion next season.

“We are building a competitive squad capable of challenging at the top end of the table. His leadership, versatility and experience at different levels of Kenyan football make him an attractive option for us. Discussions are ongoing and we are optimistic,” adds the source.

Despite the growing interest from MOFA, Wepo has confirmed that he is still weighing up his options before making a final decision on his future.

“I’ve had a few offers so far. Murang’a Seal reached out and so did Equity FC. They are both good teams with ambitious projects. We wait and see,” says Wepo.

“At the moment, I’m taking my time to evaluate everything before making a decision. The most important thing is finding the right project where I can continue growing and contribute to the team’s objectives.”

MOFA are expected to be active in the transfer market in the coming weeks as they look to strengthen key areas of the squad after falling short in their quest for promotion. The potential arrival of Wepo would represent a significant statement of intent from the club as they prepare for another push towards the FKF Premier League.

For now, the race remains open, but all indications suggest MOFA hold the upper hand in the battle for the former Kenya youth international's signature.
