Mixed fortunes for Kenyan stars abroad

Reading Time: 2min | Sun. 16.05.21. | 21:19

Various Kenyan players were in action across different leagues across the globe on Sunday

Harambee Stars playmaker Eric Johana was introduced in the second half as Jonkopings Sodra fell by a solitary goal to AFC Eskilstuna in a Swedish second tier match staged at the Tunavallen Stadium.

Johanna replaced Adrian Edqvist just a minute after restart but his inclusion could not fire the relegation threatened club to cancel a 62nd minute strike by Ashley Coffey.

In the top tier, Stars centre back Joseph Okumu will be available for selection after being drafted in the eighteen man squad set to take on Halmstad on Monday.

Okumu who plies his trade with Elfsborg had missed the previous two rounds nursing a minor knock.

In the Zambian Super League, Stars creative midfielder Duke Abuya was once again missing in action as Nkana inched closer to relegation following their 2-1 loss to Lusaka Dynamos at the Nkana Stadium.

Abuya has seen limited playing time following the arrival of Beston Chambeshi with Sunday's match being the third he has been overlooked for the starting roles.

While it was a bitter pill to swallow for Nkana, it was sweet victory for Musa Mohamed who clocked full time for Dynamos.

The former Gor skipper was deployed in the defensive midfielder filling in the slot which was left his compatriot Duncan Otieno who was ruled out of the match.

Musa in his post match comments admitted that playing in the midfield was challenging as opposed to the backline.

"I was played in a unfamiliar territory but I believe I was equal to the task. I am happy the team grabbed the three points. We are also looking forward to continental football next season," said the centre back.

Dynamos forward Willy Stephanus grabbed a brace while veteran Nkana forward Ronald Kampamba netted the consolation.

In Tanzania, former Kisumu Starlets player Bertha Omita is in a celabratory mood as Simba Queens were declared champions of the Tanzania Women's Premier League after edging Baobab Queens 1-0.
