Mid-table derby in which United hope to replicate a landslide League Cup victory

Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 30.09.23. | 15:06

The second meeting with Crystal Palace in less than a week for Erik ten Hag's side. This one is much more important than the previous...

The same venue - Old Trafford.

The same opponent - Crystal Palace.

For Manchester United, hopefully, the same outcome - 3-0, or any other win.

That's the prelude for today's Premier League mid-table derby between the Red Devils and the Eagles, just four days after their League Cup tie, which ended in United's comfortable victory.

Disturbingly shaken hosts are going through a full-scale crisis both in terms of results and relations among the team. The Jadon Sancho saga has not ended yet, and a long list of injured players, mostly defenders (Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Amad Diallo, Lisandro Martinez, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Sergio Reguilon, Kobbie Mainoo), makes it almost impossible for Ten Hag to get his slot back on track.

Following a dreadful start to September, losing three successive games and conceding ten goals in the process, Man United have since steadied the ship with two important victories without reply against Burnley in the Premier League and Palace in the EFL Cup.

On the other end, Roy Hodgson is facing a similar issue, though most of his sidelined players are not that vital for the side.

Palace, who sit just one place and one point behind Man United in the Premier League table, have largely struggled to claim positive top-flight results on their travels, as they have only won three of their last 14 away games since the turn of the year, beating relegated duo Leeds United and Southampton last season before securing a slender 1-0 win at Sheffield United on the opening weekend of this campaign.
