Messi-less PSG face Benfica amid the goalscoring drought

Reading Time: 2min | Tue. 11.10.22. | 13:31

The Argentine star is still sidelined due to a calf injury, and he was the only Saints' scorer in the previous clash of the two

Lionel Messi has been ruled out of Paris St-Germain's Champions League fixture with Benfica on Tuesday night with a calf injury.

Messi, 35, scored his team's only goal in the reverse fixture in Portugal last week before being withdrawn late on.

Presnel Kimpembe, Nuno Mendes and Renato Sanches are also set to miss the fixture for the hosts at Parc des Princes.

The Argentine forward also missed Saturday's Ligue 1 draw against Reims, in which PSG failed to score in the league for the first time this season. However, even with one of the greatest-ever in the squad, the Parisians have been struggling to score recently, netting only once against Lyon and Brest in the recent Ligue 1 games.

PSG top Group H on seven points, level with Benfica, with Juventus third. Presnel Kimpembe, Nuno Mendes and Renato Sanches are also set to miss the fixture for the hosts at Parc des Princes.
