Barca's new president again declared his affection toward club's captain

„Love is in the air“ is one of the most popular pop-hits from the ’70s and according to Joan Laporta, love is in the air at Nou Camp, love for Lionel Messi. The new/old president of Barcelona held his inauguration ceremony at the Barca stadium and paid special attention to his captain.

During his speech, Laporta spoke of the economic situation, coach, and of course, the Argentinian star.

"We will, for example, try to convince Leo to stay at the club. Sorry, Leo... I will do my best and he knows it! We're going to try, of course, to convince him to stay here because he's the best player in history. Sorry, but I love you and Barcelona also loves you. If this stadium were full, you wouldn't want to go" said Laporta, at which point applause broke out.

Barcelona’s president also gave strong support to current coach Ronald Koeman, amid speculation that he wants to bring in Julius Negelsmann in June.

"Ronald, you have our confidence. We want to get back to making history in the Champions League, but this year we need to go out and try to win the league title and the Copa del Rey" said Laporta.

As far as financial situation is concerned, stability is the key for the new president.

"The economic situation is a priority for us. We need to make the club sustainable. We have a plan for this. We will take decisions in Barcelona's best interests. Stability is key and we can improve all the sections to make them more competitive. But, we must maintain stability" repeated Laporta.

Of course, a part of that stability came via one of the wealthiest men in Spain, Jose Elias. The businessman from Badalona guaranteed 40 of the 125 million euros that Laporta had to present to LaLiga before he could become confirmed as president. If it wasn’t for him, Laporta couldn’t be able to come to ot Camp Nou and declare his love for Messi.

So far, Barca’s captain knows everybody loves him. But, soon it will be time to talk about ambitions and money. And that time will soon come.
