Erik ten Hag is eager to get his compatriot Wout Weghorst on a six-month loan from Burnley

You surely remember the guy - not only he stuck the stoppage-time set-piece artwork in the back of Argentina's net, but he managed to piss off The King himself. The footage of enraged Leo Messi asking him 'what are you looking at, fool!?' in the press zone after the match went viral.

After that December night, Wout Weghorst escaped anonymity at 30 and is now on the verge of something much bigger.

Manchester United see Weghorst as an option to fill a void in the striker position, with the club deciding only to pursue loan deals during this window. Erik ten Hag is believed to be a fan of Weghorst, with the striker's personality particularly appealing to United's manager.

Weghorst has been on loan from Burnley at Turkish side Besiktas since the start of the season, and there was an expectation from the Super Lig club that he would see out the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign with them.

Weghorst is pushing for the move to Manchester United and the chance to return to England and the Premier League, feeling he has unfinished business after his disappointing six months last season.

His apparent goodbye celebration to Besiktas fans following his goal against Kasimpasa only fuelled the feeling he is ready to go elsewhere.
