Madrid's scout told the Catalonian press an interesting story

When you think of Barcelona in the last 10 years, many great names strike out: Lionel Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Pique, Puyol, Busquets…those players were the core of a team which won the Champions League and La Liga and played those great El Clasico’s with Real Madrid. And now, one of former Madrid’s scouts delivered a ‘bomb’, claiming that Catalonian legends Messi and Busquets were ‘flirting’ with the Royal club.

Manolo Romero, a former Real Madrid scout in Catalonia talked for SER Catalunya and explained this almost unbelievable situation with two famous players. Of course, the Argentinian’s story was much more interested. It was the time when his father was worried that his son won’t get the opportunity and he wanted to pursue every opportunity, Madrid included.

Leo was sitting in my car. Horacio Gaggioli, who was driving a youthful Messi at the time, we were watching a game at the Premia field. Gaggioli told us that Leo’s father ‘is very upset because he believes that they are not going to give him the opportunity… Would you take us to Madrid? He asked. Don’t tell me twice, right now I’m calling the bosses. I called the bosses. Leo was in my car when they were talking with the ‘bosses’ of Madrid. Horacio said ‘hey, what about Figo?’ That was an electoral issue, but you know that Madrid and Barça bark at each other but don’t bite each other,” explained Romero.

Luckily for Barcelona fans, the move didn’t happen as well as the Busquets attempt, also described by the Real scout. Before Barca, current club’s captain played for a local club Jabac Terrassa. They had a loose agreement with the Catalonians that any prospects should be singed for Barca, but Busquets’ future club was unsure about him at the time, so Real got involved.

At that time there was a fax for him to sign for Madrid, but when Barca found out, they reacted” Romero revealed.
