Merciless Gunners hit four past Wigan as they march on in the FA Cup
Reading Time: 2min | Sun. 15.02.26. | 21:24
The 2013 FA Cup winners, now in the third tier, had no chance at the packed Emirates, losing 4-0
Brutal. Ruthless. Lethal.
That’s exactly how Arsenal played on Sunday night as they swept past Wigan Athletic to reach the FA Cup last-16. Their 4-0 home win felt more like a training session for Mikel Arteta's team, who settled the match in the first 30 minutes.
Wigan, who are having a tough time in the third division, tried to rely on a packed defense. However, that strategy fell apart before 15 minutes had passed.

Noni Madueke scored the first goal after ten minutes, thanks to a great pass from Eberechi Eze, making it 1-0.
Eze soon added another assist with a precise pass to Martinelli, who beat the offside trap and finished low from a tight angle for 2-0.
It’s interesting that Martinelli has only scored once in the Premier League this season, but he has netted 10 times in the Champions League and other cup competitions. He’s also the first Arsenal player to score more than 10 goals in cup and European competitions in a single season since Ian Wright in 1994-95, who scored 12.
Eze’s vision and execution to send Madueke in on goal. Sensational to witness. 🪄 pic.twitter.com/0aukbN989l

Wigan were struggling and their mistakes made things easier for Arsenal. Jack Hunt tried to clear Bukayo Saka's cross from the right, but ended up heading the ball into his own net, making it 3-0.
Gabriel Jesus finished the scoring in the first half hour with a clever chip, taking advantage of a pass from Christian Norgaard.
At that stage, it looked like Wigan were set for a tough night and that the match could become historic. Even though Victor Gyokeres came on at halftime, Arteta likely told his players to play it safe, slow the game down, and finish the match without showing up their opponents.
