Mbuya was close to joining the millers in the off-season transfer window from Mulembe United but the move hit a snag at the eleventh hour

Despite missing the chance to join Nzoia Sugar, defender Peter Mbuya Wangila hasn't given up on gracing the top flight for the first time in his career.

Mbuya was close to joining the millers in the off-season transfer window from Mulembe United but the move hit a snag at the eleventh hour following the inability of his parent club to grant him a release letter.

Disappointed with the failed transfer, a move that would have seen him dance on the biggest stage, Mbuya had no option but make a return to Mulembe, previously Vihiga United and scale his way up once more.

Mbuya, a former Soy United right back, has previously been linked to a number of top-flight clubs including Sofapaka, FC Talanta and host of other National Super League sides says the botched move will not kill his resolve to play at the highest level.

The overlapping defender who has been attached with Mulembe since the relegation Soy to the third tier in the 202-21 season says he intends to give his best at Mulembe and catch the attention of top-flight clubs this term with promotion his sole motivation.

"I was close to joining Nzoia Sugar in the past window but all did not go well. I was yearning for top flight football but I wasn't successful in the pursuit. However, I am sure I will make it in the next window," he said.

Meanwhile, Mbuya is looking forward to guiding the rebranded club to top flight football despite a bad start to the season and believes that the team has picked up important lessons in the first two games of the season that are going to be helpful in their quest to get stability and compete at the highest level once again.

He further welcomed the addition of new players to their fold noting that it has made them aggressive and to be convinced that they can again challenge for the championship with other elite sides.

"The goal is to get promoted at the end of the season. Some of us had the option to leave after last term struggles but decided to stay and try get the team back to top flight. We have quality in abundance in the team,” he added.

The club rebranded to Mulembe earlier this month from Vihiga United and had it transfer ban lifted after paying Nigerian player Junior Adeyefa.
