Mbappe is hot and Bayern is not! The Frenchman scores two as PSG wins in Munich

Bayern came back from 0-2, but Mbappe scored the winning goal

This was only a first leg of the quarter final Champions League match, but the game between Bayern Munich and PSG is already among the best we have seen in this year’s competition. And who knows if we’ll see a better game until the end of the competition. The repeat of last year’s final didn’t end well for the current European champions, who lost at home to the Parisians in a fantastic match: Bayern-PSG 2-3.

The Bavarians were handicapped with the absence for their best striker Robert Lewandowski, and boy did they missed him! 28 shots on goal, 12 on target, and they only scored two goals. Not enough for PSG, who took only five shots, but scored three goals, two of which by Kylian Mbappe, who had a fantastic night, with (again) marvelous keeper Keylor Navas. Bayern were better, but PSG scored more goals and won in Munich, and that’s the only thing that matters.

Three minutes. That’s how much time Kylian Mbappe needed to score in the quarter-final of the Champions League. The French international used the first chance of the game to score an important goal, right through Manuel Neuer’s legs.

Bayern acted like nothing happened and started aplying the pressure, but PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas again proved how serious player he really is. Muller, Goretzka and Pavard all tried but the PSG keeper saved all. And then again, Bayern’s defense slipped, allowing the captain Marquinhos to score. Bayern’s responce after 0-2 in the 28th minute? More and more attacks. That seemed like a good idea, since former PSG striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored in the 37th minute, easing the pressure on the hosts. Coach Hansi Flick didn’t wait the half-time to address the defense issues, he made two substitutions during the first half.

In the second half, Bayern applied the pressure, while PSG waited for counter attack and had some good situations, but it was the experienced Thomas Muller who finally converted possession and shots into an equalizer in the 60th minute. And maybe the majority of the players on the pitch felt that Bayern might score the winner at the end, Mbappe had other thoughts. Di Maria found the fantastic Frenchman on the counter, and the finished in style, in the left bottom corner, through the legs of Boateng: 2-3.

The huge task is ahead of Bayern in the second leg. They need to win at least 2-0, and with Mbappe playing like this, it is hard to believe that the Bavarians will be able to keep a clean sheet. Still, Lewandowski will be back, and anything is possible when he is around.
