The two clubs clashed in a league match on Thursday, 30 October at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, with K’Ogalo emerging victorious with a 2-0 scoreline.
Second-half goals from Shariff Musa and Bryson Wangai were all that Gor Mahia needed to condemn Mathare to their third defeat of the season.
Coach Kamau went on to explain why he attributed the loss to their away win over Shabana FC three days earlier.
“In the first half, I think it was very clear because you can see we were travelling from Kisii and had just one session with the boys, and I think the trip itself, then the game at Gusii, was a tough one.
We had to come up with a solution to at least try and make it a little bit simpler for the players, because they really fought in the previous match,” stated Kamau.
The former Harambee Stars assistant coach also noted that the mental fatigue from the match took a toll on his players, but expressed satisfaction with his team despite losing to K’Ogalo.
“In terms of performance, I think I am happy with the boys, but I am not happy with the results,” he added.
Further, the former Posta Rangers tactician admitted that his team struggled to contain Shariff on the Gor Mahia wing, who was a constant thorn in the flesh of his defenders.
“Again, we had some problems in the first half with Shariff because I think he was dominating in the duel with my wing back, and it was very clear that we had to assist our wing backs to play closer to the wingers, but his quality was there to be seen.”
The Slum Boys will be back on the pitch on Sunday, 2 November, with a clash against yet another Kenyan giant, AFC Leopards, at the Nyayo National Stadium from 1500 hrs.
