Veteran tactician picks second half substitutes to thank after coming from a goal down to down Nzoia

After coming from behind to conquer an obstinate Nzoia Sugar 2-1, Tusker head coach Robert Matano hailed his impact players for saving the day.

Nzoia nearly handed Tusker their second defeat in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) 2020-2021 season but Matano was bailed out by second half substitutes who engineered their recovery from a goal down.

The visitors had taken the lead through Hillary Simiyu three minutes after restart but goals from Jackson Macharia and Heny Meja delivered Tusker’s tenth win in the campaign.

Macharia who had come in for Kevin Okoth had Faraj Ominde who had replaced Hashim Sempala to thank for assisting him while Meja’s headed home from Eric Zakayo’s half volley.Zakayo had replaced Crispinus Onyango.

Matano lauded the fresh legs for making in-roads in the Nzoia’s final third which had proved shatterproof in the first half. The league winning tactician was over the moon after his tactics paid off at the eleventh hour.

“For us to beat Nzoia, we had to save the best for last. We knew we would tactical overpower them in the second half. We wanted the game to flow faster in their half and thus we brought in technically gifted players who got the job done. With the experience I have, I knew what to do at what time and who to bring in,” disclosed the former AFC Leopards coach

Following the win, Tusker sit at the top with 32 points, seven ahead of KCB who tackle Sofapaka on Wednesday at the Danson Mwanyumba Stadium, Wundanyi
