Marseille calling his son to come back

The French giants has already contacted Galtier's representatives to offer him the job

It was just the logical question from the moment coach Marcelino resigned – is this finally the time for Christophe Galtier and Marseille to unite? The biggest club in France is in crisis (again) and the former PSG coach is in his own personal crisis as well, so maybe the Marseille-born coach could take over Olympique, who desperately needs stability. And according to reports from France, the first steps have been taken in that direction. RMC Sports cites his sources from Marseille which confirmed that the club from the south of France has contacted the French coach.

All this happened when one group of supporters, the most aggressive one, held a meeting with the Marseille executives and threatened them with ‘a war’ if they don’t resign. Spanish coach Marcelino didn’t want to work in that kind of environment and resigned, while president Pablo Longoria, also on the supporters’ dark list, decided to stay at the helm, after a long conversation with the club’s owner Frank McCourt. In the meantime, Jacques Abardonado was named an interim manager and oversaw a thrilling 3-3 Europa League game against Ajax, and 4-0 thrashing by PSG. He surely isn’t a long term solution and Longoria will try again to sign Galtier.

The first time Longoria wanted to sign the former Saint Etienne, Lille, Nice and PSG manager was after it was obvious that the Parisians will sack him and Igor Tudor left Marseille’s post. The club’s president eventually ended with his long-time friend Marcelino, but he first contacted Galtier through his representatives. The coach declined at the time, since he was still, at least formally a PSG coach, but was negotiating the departure settlement. He also wanted some time off, since he is (still) in the middle of the scandal concerned with apparent racism, of which he was accused by former Nice sporting director Julien Fournier.

But now, after a few months have passed, Galtier representatives didn’t refuse Longoria. They also didn’t want to comment anything to RMC Sport, i.e. they didn’t deny the story, which is already interesting. If the coach wants to remove himself from France due to ongoing racism investigation and work without any pressure but with lots for money, he will accept a coaching offer in Qatar. If the wants to be at the forefront again, with a lots of pressure, he will take over his hometown club. Marseille needs a coach who knows how to handle the hot crowd, knows to work under pressure and will get results now, and Galtier ticks all the boxes. He would be perfect. If he says ‘yes’, Longoria will turn to supporter groups to see if they will accept and back Galtier. It that also ends up with ‘yes’ – voila, Marseille will have a new coach.
