Michael Owino had a difficult period at the start of the season

Wazito FC striker Michael ‘Wise’ Owino has hailed his current head coach Francis Kimanzi as one of the best coaches he has ever worked with owing to the guidance he has gotten under the stewardship of the former Harambee Stars coach..

In the premature 2019/2020 season that was cut short, Wazito finished in 13th place on 20 points after twenty three games. This season however, Kimanzi’s first season, the club sits sixth on the log on 25 points. Although the team have surpassed last year’s point tally with fewer games, Wise reveals that under Kimanzi there is only one secret – working hard all through.

“He is one of the best coaches I have worked with. He has been pushing me and guiding me. It is not only with me but with the entire team. He has restored the team’s confidence and built the players’ confidence as well. Generally,he has done a very good job with the whole unit. Under Kim, there is no secret, it is work all through,” the player revealed.

Since the 2020/2021 season kicked off back in November last year, Wise struggled to get going. The former Kisumu All Stars player had to wait for two months before registering his first ever goal with his new side, netting in a 1-0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz back on 29th January.

Before scoring that goal, the tall striker confesses that due to the slow start he had, pressure had been building, but the goal came just at the right moment after things fell in place.

“That first goal came at a very good time for me. Yes pressure had started building but everyone in the team was giving me their support. Everything in training was perfect but it is only that goal that was proving elusive. Fortunately, it came which was a huge relief and the feeling was so good,” he said.

In the current suspended season, Owino has two goals to his name as he continues with his resurgence under Kimanzi.
