The visitors came from a goal down to share the spoils with Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) champions after Joseph Okwenda cancelled Yves Koutiama’s second-minute goal in the 33rd minute.

Speaking after the match, Manoah said his side had prepared well for their opponents, managing to seal all weaknesses.

We knew it was going to be a tough game, given the caliber of our opponents, and so did a lot of work behind the scenes. In the end, it worked, and this is a very important result for the team, as it gives us plenty of self-belief.

Sometimes the players need something to hang on to as we go into upcoming fixtures, and this result has done just that,” he said.

Mara also spoke of a squad that has been beset by plenty of injuries and revealed that this has changed how they are behaving in the transfer window.

We have had just 17 players who are fit to play, with the rest suffering from various forms of injuries, and this has really affected our performance. We are therefore very specific and deliberate about the kind of signings we are going to make.

We are looking for players who will add strength to the squad and not an overhaul, and so far, we are doing well in that direction. It is a project that we hope will work and make us a very competitive side locally.

Mara Sugar are in their second season in the top-tier league. They are currently 12th in the standings with 20 points.

They play record champions Gor Mahia on Sunday, hoping to build on their midweek result to pick all three points away.
