He was largely expected to take the number one role in the first team but was usuped by Bernard Onunga
Experienced Nzoia Sugar goalkeeper Benson Mangala has pledged to roll up his sleeves and fight for a place in the first team after warming the bench for a while.
Mangala hasn't seen much playing time this season or the previous ones due to competition from other custodians.
His first and only appearance this season came against debutants Murang'a Seal, albeit as a substitute, coming in for the injured Bernard Onunga.
Last season, Mangala played second fiddle to Humphrey Katasi, who doubled up as club captain.
With Katasi moving to AFC Leopards during the off-season transfer window, Mangala was largely expected to take the number one role in the first team.
However, the arrival of Onunga from National Super League Gusii FC saw Mangala maintain his place on the substitute bench.
With the league set to resume next weekend after the conclusion of the international break, Mangala hopes that his hard work in training will pay off.
"I am working hard in training so as to get back to the starting team. The competition from my colleague in the goalkeeping department has been pushing me to get better and work on my weak areas. I am confident of getting minutes after the international break," said Mangala.
Last season, Nzoia were among the teams with the most clean sheets in the league, as Katasi didn't concede in more than ten matches.
Mangala hopes that the club will surpass the clean sheets kept last season, as well as recover from the poor start that has seen the Millers win a single game in six rounds.
"We have to improve if we are to replicate last season's run. We are doing our best to achieve it," he said
