Mandy wants his 10 million back from Manchester City

Lorient left-back Benjamin Mendy has gone to ‘war’ against Manchester City, having filed a claim for unpaid wages from September 2021. Mendy was accused of raping a 24-year-old woman at his home in Cheshire in October 2020, as well as attempting to rape a woman four years his senior two years earlier, also at his home. Nevertheless, the court declared him innocent of both charges, so he has now decided to collect damages, which could amount to several million euros. According to the Daily Mail, it is a gross amount between nine and 10 million pounds, which is between 10,500,000 and 11,500,000 euros.

In September 2021, after the accusations, Manchester City stopped paying the player's salary, which was around 5,500,000 euros per year, and Mendy's contract with the Citizens officially expired at the end of June this year. The former French international now wants to make up for all that. The player's representatives have confirmed that a claim has been made to the Employment Tribunal, while the Etihad club have yet to make an official statement.

When he joined Manchester City, Mendy was officially the highest-paid defender in the Premier League, while Monaco received a compensation of 59,000,000 euros. However, in the last two years, his financial condition has seriously deteriorated, as he owes more than 900,000 euros in taxes. The Daily Mail writes that earlier this month Mandy reduced the price for the sale of his villa in Cheshire by as much as 750,000 pounds compared to the original price of around 5,000,000 pounds (5,720,000 euros), in order to avoid bankruptcy.
