Mandela misses Sundowns' victory in South Africa

The win opened up a 13-point buffer for Sundowns at the summit of the log.
Kenyan international Brian Mandela again missed Mamelodi Sundowns' matchday squad as they edged Chippa United 2-1 in a South African Premier Soccer League clash.
The former Tusker FC centre back has missed the last nine games for the reigning South African champions after picking up an injury against Supersport United back in September 2022.
Sundowns however failed to provide an update on Mandela, revealing that Abdelmounaim Boutouil, Thapelo Morena, Terrence Mashego, Rivaldo Coetzee, Gift Motupa, Bongani Zungu, Abubeker Nassir, and Thabiso Kutumela would miss the match.
The log leaders had a bright start to the game and grabbed the lead in the 14th minute when Teboho Mokoena headed in a brilliant freekick from Aubrey Modiba.
Sundowns went into the break with the slender 1-0 advantage with the opening minutes of the second half being pedestrian as both teams rang the changes.
Last season’s top scorer Peter Shalulile moved to joint top of the scorer’s charts with a strike in the 67th minute after coming on 10 minutes earlier with a header from Sifiso Ngobeni’s cross.
Chipped pulled one back through Thabiso Lebitso in the 92nd minute to become the first player to score against Sundowns in eight league matches.
Sundowns made it 10 league wins in a row as they fastened their grip at the summit of the log with second placed Supersport trailing by 13 points.
