The Serbian international will not extend his contract with Fiorentina which runs out in 2022

Manchester City is the leader of the Premier League at the moment, and it seems now that nobody can catch them until June. Their closest rivals are Manchester United, while current champions Liverpool are out of the title race. But what do The Red Devils and the Reds have in common? Leaky defense. In the case of Liverpool, it’s more about the injuries of key players (Van Dijk, Matip, Fabiano), while in the case of Manchester...well it’s about leaky defense.

The Red Devils lost the title pace after allowing last-minute equalizer from Everton, and a draw with WBA, or receiving two goals from basement team Sheffield United didn’t help either. Enter Nikola Milenkovic. Fiorentina defender is nearing the end of his contract, and since his team is without any ambition at the moment, it seems logical that the young Serb (23) will try to take advantage of his form.

It is understood that both Liverpool and Manchester United have called Milenkovic’s manager to ask about his availability. But, Borussia Dortmund are interested too, per Sky Sports. Fiorentina are said to want a fee in the region of 35 million euros for the player, so the bidding was is very much possible.

While Jurgen Klopp just wants a cover for his injured player, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants a new player to come in and partner Harry Maguire at the back, with Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly, set to slip down in the pecking order. And he is not the only one who thinks that Manchester captain needs a new partner.

„I want to make a point on Lindelof. Lindelof's problem is Maguire, Maguire's problem is Lindelof. I think he is a really good player by the way. I think if he was alongside a Rio Ferdinand or Van Dijk, I think he would make a great pair. The problem is he is alongside somebody who isn't the most mobile in Harry Maguire, and I think that is the problem that Lindelof has got. That actually they have invested 85 million euros in Maguire, so they are going to have to put somebody beside him“ said former Manchester defender Garry Neville after a WBA 1-1 draw.

His former team-mate Paul Scholes is also unimpressed with the Swedish international.

“We all know they’ve got a lot of goals in the team but as Bruno Fernandes said, their defense has just not been good enough. “It’s hard to put your finger on it as well because you look individually and they’re okay. Maguire is a good defender. I still have question marks against Lindelof. I always will. I don’t think he’s quick enough to play alongside Maguire, I don’t think he’s aggressive enough“ said Scholes after a 3-3 draw with Everton.

Will Nikola Milenković be that other pair to captain Maguire, remains to be seen. But it seems that his days in Fiorentina are numbered anyway.
