Manchester resting it's stars for the Europa League return leg

Reading Time: 2min | Thu. 15.04.21. | 11:25

A number of players are suspended, while others will be rested

Before the second leg of the Europa League quarterfinal against Granada, Manchester United Ole Gunnar Solskajer only has to worry how many changes he has to make in the starting 11. The Norwegian is contemplating about giving a chance to some players, who need more playing time, but at the same time not jeopardizing the 2-0 away win in the first leg. To the ones with a short memory, Solskajer made 8 substitutions in last year’s FA Cup quarterfinals against Norwich, and secured a win in extra time, thanks to his captain Maguire. So this time, he will make less.

For the Thursday’s game, three changes are certain: Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay are all suspended. After handling the number one duties to Henderson, De Gea will probably get a chance behind the sticks, which means, four changes so far. Marcus Rashford will be a late call, due to soreness in his leg, so it is logical that he should be on the bench, but not involved, which gives Daniel James a chance to start.

It's never a positive thing to not have every player available. But we've got players ready to deputize and come into the team. We have to make sure that we get through. I always pick a team to win a game. Of course. Granada’s got nothing to lose. They’re going to come here to try to win the game, they need to score and we want to score goals so, hopefully, it will be a good game. There will be a few changes; some of them are forced and some of them are maybe rotation. Dan James is back. He trained this morning so he should be available. Of course, we’ve lost a few through suspension for this game against Granada” said Solskajer.

The guests will try to make a good impression at Old Trafford, and former Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado will be in the squad after an injury. Domingos Duarte and Yan Brice Eteki are suspended, but former Chelsea man Kenedy is also availability after an injury. With another season in Europa League not likely, considering their current form in La Liga, Granada has to come out fighting, if they want to have any chances of progressing. Against the second in the Premier League, it will be a tough task.
