Lille defender chose the Red Devils and headed to Manchester for the medicals

One French centre-back has left Man United just to be succeeded by another. Leny Yoro is on the verge of joining the English giants and replacing Raphael Varane. They hope at Old Trafford that the youngster will leave a bigger mark than his more experienced compatriot.

It seems that the talented Lille defender couldn't wait any longer for Real Madrid. The breaking news in England is that he boarded a plane this morning and headed to Manchester, accompanied by his parents and agent. There, he will undergo medical examinations and then sign a multi-year contract with United.

The Athletic journalist, David Ornstein, brought the exclusive news, highlighting that the work is still not definitely finished, but at Old Trafford they are very optimistic that the 18-year-old Frenchman will eventually become the Red Devil, despite his different initial plans.

The player wished to join Real Madrid, which led Los Blancos to haggle and offer "only" 40 million euros to Lille. On the other hand, Man United was more generous, bidding 50 million plus 12 million worth of add-ons. The French side's management has obviously managed to pressure the defender into choosing England over Spain.

It's not a secret that Yoro has been waiting for Real to take a further step and make a new proposal, but eventually realized that wasn't going to happen and turned to Manchester. According to French journalist Santi Aouna, Yoro will earn 9 million euros per year at Old Trafford.

However, The Athletic still leaves room for a turnover, aware that the youngster could change his mind. On the other hand, if things go according to plan, Man United would get one of the most talented centre-backs in the world and the first reinforcement in defence - probably not the only one, given that the talks with Bayern and Everton regarding Matthijs de Ligt and Jarrad Branthwaite are still underway.
