Newcastle United are more than interested in Nottingham Forest's forward, but it won't be that easy reaching a deal with the Tricky Trees' board

Newcastle United sent an official offer of around £45million for Anthony Elanga, but Nottingham Forest rejected it instantly, The Athletic reported on Tuesday.

Apparently, the Tricky Trees have no intention of selling their 23-year-old winger. Therefore, the Magpies are now thinking about their next move, unsure whether to pursue the deal or leave it.

Elanga, who has Cameroonian roots, appeared in all 38 of Forest's EPL games in the 2024-25 season, scoring six goals and adding 11 assists. Forest finished seventh and secured qualification for the Conference League.

Interestingly, a year ago, Newcastle was also willing to pay a fee worth around £45 million for Elanga. The potential package included an initial £30m payment, a swap deal for Miguel Almiron (valued at £5m and who has subsequently joined Atlanta United), and two potential further payments of £5m.

The Swedish international joined Forest from Manchester United in a £15m deal in July 2023 and scored 11 goals in 83 appearances for the club.
