Tusker have now gone for five league matches without defeat and have won their last three

Tusker midfielder Jackson Macharia is a happy man after scoring his first goal of the year during their 2-0 win over four-time Kenyan champions Ulinzi Stars last weekend.

Macharia who was named the third best midfielder in the last season ended his search for the first goal in the year when he slotted home the second to put off the soldiers hopes of salvaging a point from the game.

The dreadlocked midfielder said the goal was a fruit of the hard work he had been putting behind the scenes having stayed out of competitive football for close to two months.

It is a great feeling to be back on the scoring sheet having been out of action for a while. I have been working really hard behind the scenes to get my fitness on top and I thank God that I scored,” he told the club’s website.

With Tusker set to face Ulinzi again on Wednesday, Macharia anticipates a tough encounter but was optimistic of completing a double over Benjamin Nyangweso’s charges.

“It will be a difficult game again because we know they will come back stronger and will definitely make changes to how they played in Nairobi. It is now up to us to do the things that worked well for us and also correct a few of the weaknesses we noted.” He said.

Macharia who briefly exited the Tusker camp shortly after their CAF Confederation Cup playoff defeat to CS Sfaxien of Tunisia in December said he used the small window of time out to refresh and take a rest.

The Kenyan international had taken the break to work on contract extension having exhausted the previous one which had been signed in November 2018.

I used the time to rest especially after some hard work last season and the first phase of continental football. I took a small vacation because I feel I deserved it. Now I am ready, stronger and fresher and I am ready to give my best to help my team succeed,” he said.

Meanwhile, the former Thika United man noted that the team was slowly gathering steam after a rather slow start in the season.

Tusker have now gone for five league matches without defeat and have won their last three.

“The wins give a lot of confidence to the team. We started very low especially after the Continental matches. We wanted to carry on from last season but things didn’t go as we had planned but now that we have gathered the winning pace, confidence is back and we will continue fighting.” he stated.
