The Chelsea striker has come on a loan worth around six million euros
In recent years, Roma and its fans have been in charge of creating a spectacle when it comes to transfer windows and hiring sound reinforcements. Last year, there was general euphoria in the Eternal City when Paolo Dybala joined the Giallorossi, and now the Argentine forward got a teammate whose playing style will fit perfectly for Jose Mourinho. Romelu Lukaku was officially announced today, and the Belgian striker has come initially on a loan deal worth around 6 million euros.

It's seems that Romelu Lukaku's off season life is the same every year. Drama, drama, drama, negotiations, and pay cuts. Since he went to Chelsea for a ridicules sum of 114 million euros, he has been on the front pages usually for all the wrong reasons. He had a season to forget at Stamford Bridge, then after a lot of drama decided to go back to Inter on a loan (and took a pay cut). That didn't ended too great either (injuries and bad form), but then when Inter came back this offseason to take him, it was drama again. Then it was revealed he has been 'unfaithful' to his bellowed Inter and negotiated secretly with great rivals Juventus months before. And finally, when all those deals didn't materialize for various reasons (including the Saudi Arabia transfer), Roma came calling. And faced with a life on the bench (or U21 team) in Chelsea, he decided to get a pay cut (again) and move to his former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.

The complete euphoria about his signing is best described by the fact that 47.000 people (a new record) watched online his private airplane flight from Brussels to Rome. And to add a bit more glamour to the whole situation (off course in Italian style), Roma's owner Dan Friedkin, was the pilot on the plane! There were 5,000 fans at the airport who waited for Big Rom in ecstasy, and the player was already pictured on the training ground in Roma kit, hours before he was officially presented.
A typical striker was the biggest Mourinho's wish this off season, since Tammy Abraham was seriously injured and is off to a long recovery period. On paper, the famous coach now has at his disposal strikers with a large number of goals in Serie A, that is, a squad with which the Champions League spot must be seriously attacked. Paulo Dybala scored 110 goals, Andrea Belotti 108, Stefan El Shaarawy 66, and Romelu Lukaku 57. If we were to add Tammy Abraham's 25 goals, we arrive at a fantastic figure of 366 goals in the elite ranks of Italian football. On the other side, Abraham is injured for the season, Belotti failed to score a single Serie A goal last season, El Shaarawy didn't establish himself as the first-team starter, while both Dybala and Lukaku (in Inter) faced injuries last season. The Belgian striker was most effective in the 2019/2020 season, when he scored 34 goals in 51 games in Inter, but in his second stint only had 14 in 37 games. This season, he needs to get his career back on track in Rome.
