The Spanish coach has devised an unusual method to neutralize the threat that awaits his side in the Champions League final

Paris Saint-Germain are taking an unusual approach to their preparations for the UEFA Champions League Final against Arsenal, with head coach Luis Enrique introducing rugby tackle shields in training sessions.

The French champions are expected to face relentless pressure from Arsenal’s trademark set-piece routines, which have become one of the most effective weapons in European football under Mikel Arteta.

In response, PSG’s coaching staff have been using padded rugby equipment to bump and obstruct goalkeepers as they come off their line to collect crosses, replicating the physical battles that often unfold inside the six-yard box.

Arsenal have earned a reputation for their creative and aggressive dead-ball situations, frequently crowding the goalkeeper and creating chaos in the penalty area. That strategy has played a major role in their successful campaign and helped carry the North London club to the final in Budapest.

PSG are determined to ensure they are fully prepared for that challenge. After overcoming Bayern Munich in the semi-finals thanks to a decisive goal from Ousmane Dembele, the Parisians have shifted their focus to nullifying Arsenal’s aerial threat.

The final will take place on May 30 at the Puskas Arena, where PSG will attempt to become the first club since Real Madrid to successfully defend the Champions League title.

For Arsenal, meanwhile, the match represents a golden opportunity to capture Europe’s biggest prize, with their meticulously designed set-piece routines potentially playing a decisive role on the grandest stage.
