The Englishman had no doubts when it came to the next step in his career—by all accounts, his intention is to see it out at Old Trafford

Harry Maguire has reportedly turned down a big-money move to join Lionel Messi at Inter Miami, choosing instead to extend his stay with Manchester United. The experienced centre-back, who was set to become a free agent this July, has now agreed to a one-year extension at Old Trafford, with the option to prolong it by a further season.

Despite strong interest from David Beckham’s Inter Miami, the England international has decided to remain in Manchester. As per The Sun, Maguire declined the chance to link up with Messi in MLS, prioritising continuity with United.

Once viewed as expendable, he has revived his role within the squad and become a key figure under interim manager Michael Carrick, starting every game since the managerial shift earlier this year.

Maguire spoke with pride about continuing at the club, underlining the shared ambition within the squad to bring Manchester United back to the top of English football. He pointed to the hunger inside the dressing room as a decisive factor behind his commitment to stay.

“The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us. You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad.”

He continued: “Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day. I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.”

Although his long-term future is now secured, Maguire will miss upcoming Premier League action after being sent off against Bournemouth. His suspension, along with a pending FA charge for improper conduct, could affect his availability during a demanding run of fixtures. He will not feature in Monday’s clash against Leeds at Old Trafford.
