Lookman sends an official transfer request

Atalanta still have the final say on the player's potential transfer
Inter went all in and put 42 million euros on the table, plus another three millions in bonuses. They hoped that would seal the deal. But Atalanta, having just sold Mateo Retegui to Al-Qadsiah for nearly 70,000,000, rejected the offer — because now they have money, but what they lack is a guaranteed goalscorer, which Ademola Lookman certainly is. The problem, however, is that Lookman has in the meantime lost patience and has publicly requested a transfer to Milan.

To make things worse, he did it in a rather angry tone — meaning it will be hard to rebuild the love after all this.
“After three incredible years in Bergamo, I believe the time has come for a new adventure. Many clubs have approached Atalanta in the past, and I’ve always been loyal to the club. This time, however, the club’s owners and I have agreed that the moment has come. The club was clear: if a suitable offer arrives, they would let me go, Although an offer has arrived that aligns with what we discussed, the club is unfortunately blocking this opportunity for reasons I can’t understand. Over the past three years, I’ve given everything to this club — both as a player and as a person. I’ve always worn the Atalanta shirt with pride… We created memories I will always cherish. Winning the Europa League and celebrating with my teammates and the fans will forever be one of the proudest moments of my career” he wrote on his Instagram account.
Lookman also made it clear that he submitted an official transfer request to the Bergamo club and thanked fans for their support.
“Atalanta, especially its fans, are a part of me. I’ve always tried to give back, even in difficult moments. That’s why it’s hard for me to write this. Ultimately, after so many broken promises over the past months, I believe the club has treated me poorly — both as a professional and as a person. Unfortunately, I see no other choice but to stand up for what I believe is right. I can confirm that I’ve submitted a transfer request. Even during difficult times — many of which remained private — I always put the club first. I hoped it wouldn’t come to this, but I no longer have a choice. I’m truly sorry that it had to come to this. I hope you understand. Your support has always been incredible, and the bond we’ve built is special. I hope to find an amicable solution with the club as soon as possible” said the Nigerian forward.

Atalanta’s CEO, Luca Percassi — son of owner Antonio — has no doubts and is crystal clear: Lookman can leave, but not to Inter. In fact, not to any club in Italy.
“Last season, we received a €20,000,000 offer from Paris Saint-Germain, and Lookman asked us to sell him. We did promise that we would allow a transfer during this window, but under two conditions — both of which he personally requested: that he would move to a top-tier club in Europe, and that he would never wear the jersey of any club in Italy other than Atalanta. Today, the situation is very different, and the club is certainly evaluating the timing and terms of his departure. Atalanta has the final say” said Percassi. Atalanta is one of the most financially stable clubs in Europe, and the only question now is whether they want to squeeze more than the 45,000,000 (including bonuses) offered by Inter — or if they simply want to send a message to players and rival clubs that Atalanta cannot be bypassed.
