The former captain will initially be a substitute, but could still play for Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur's 25-man squad for the 2023/24 season has been submitted to the Premier League, and to the surprise of some, goalkeeper and former captain Hugo Lloris has been included by manager Ange Postecoglou.
Initially, it had been suggested that Lloris might not be registered in the squad due to his apparent desire for a new challenge after the previous season. However, the 2018 World Cup-winning goalkeeper has been unable to secure a move to another club - and for better or worse, he will be there, waiting for his chance.
Lloris' replacement, Guglielmo Vicario, has started his tenure in north London on a positive note, while Fraser Forster has returned to his role as an understudy after briefly featuring in the team during the latter part of the previous campaign.

In early June, Lloris expressed his desire to leave and stated that it was the end of an era for him at Tottenham Hotspur. It was mutually agreed that he would skip the pre-season tour of Australia, Thailand, and Singapore to focus on finding a new club. Despite interest from clubs from Saudi Arabia, Lazio, and his hometown club Nice, Lloris ultimately turned them all down. He explained that Nice's offer came too late and lacked clarity in terms of the sporting aspect, which contributed to his decision to remain at Tottenham for the time being.
Postecoglou has already given a new lease of life to several players - and who knows, maybe Lloris can still give somthing to the club.
