Liverpool's long and hard season taking its toll: Thiago to miss four Spain fixtures with injury

The midfielder won't play in the Nations League
Liverpool's midfielder Thiago Alcantara won't play for Spain in La Furia Roja's four Nations League fixtures this month. The 31-year-old picked up a muscle injury to make it a terrible end to an otherwise great season. His club lost the Champions League final as well as the tense Premier League title race. The injury comes as a bitter cherry on the foul-tasting cake.
The midfielder played around 80 minutes of the Stade de France final before joining up with the Spanish national team camp. However, he'll have to withdraw from the squad and focus on rehabilitation instead.

The injury could prove a blessing in disguise for Liverpool because their midfielder will now enjoy a longer break before the start of pre-season.
Luis Enrique's team will face Portugal on Thursday, the Czech Republic both home and away and Switzerland. The national team coach will not call another player to replace Thiago and will remain with 24 players in June fixtures.
