The current European champions are not interested in Georginio Wijnaldum

At first, it looked like Georginio Wijnaldum will have no problems finding a new club, after it became obvious that Liverpool won’t increase the offer for the new contract. After all, the Dutchman is one of the most consistent players, a regular in Klopp’s side, a Champions League winner and a National team player. But, so far, he got rejected by two clubs: Barcelona and more recently Bayern Munich.

It was widely expected that Wijnaldum will make a transfer to reunite with his former Oranje coach Ronald Koeman. It would be a logical choice, as he is reliable, has experience, would command no transfer fee (Barca is in debt) and is younger than Buskets. But, all of a sudden, things changed, and Catalonians changed their mind. Mundo Deportivo reported that senior players at Barcelona have met with Koeman and told him they don’t want Wijnaldum to sign, but promote talented Ilaix Moriba instead.

So, all of a sudden, Plan A has gone down the drain. Wijnaldum’s agent then started to test other European markets, trying with big clubs first. And he instantly got rejected by the current European champions Bayern Munich. The Bavarians are definitely looking to buy a midfielder and compensate Thiago’s transfer to Liverpool, but they still said no to the Dutchman.  Abendzeitung Muenchen reported that two reasons prevailed: age and salary demands. Wijnaldum will soon be a 31-year old and his wage from Liverpool is not something Bayern can and will pay.

The Germans will still look for a midfielder, since they don’t have the quality cover for their main players Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka. Corentin Tolisso is often injured and Marc Roca has not been so good as expected. That is why the Bavarians will probably buy Florian Neuhaus (24), a German midfielder from Borussia Monchengladbach. The Foals will not play the Champions League next season and will have to sell some players, and Neuhaus is one of the most expensive ones: 40 million euros.

That leaves Wijnaldum out of options for top clubs, so maybe he will remain with Liverpool. There will be only a few clubs who will consider paying for his wages. But, June is still far away.
