Nobody believed he would ever return to Real Madrid, and now he doesn't want to return to parent club Espanyol
Joselu hopes to extend his tenure at Real Madrid, aiming to remain for another year as he plays a crucial role for the team in the 2023/24 season.
The 33-year-old rejoined Los Blancos on loan from Espanyol in the last transfer window after Karim Benzema's unexpected departure left the club needing another forward. His addition to the squad wasn't at all glamourous, but the former Newcastle United player showed that he has something to offer at the highest level.
In 13 La Liga matches this season, Joselu has netted five goals and provided two assists. Additionally, he has appeared in three Champions League games. While his current loan deal concludes at the season's end, Real Madrid can secure him permanently.
Expressing his desire to continue contributing to the club, Joselu aims for an extended stay at Real Madrid, citing his distinctive playing profile as a valuable asset not common in all teams.
"My goal is to stay at Real Madrid for another year. I hope to continue enjoying this opportunity. I understand the role I bring to the club; my profile is unique and different."
The experiences striker emphasized his happiness with his current contributions and expressed his readiness to assist the team whenever required on the field. He acknowledged the quality within the squad and aimed to capitalize on his scoring chances and prove he deserved to wear the white shirt.
"I've scored five goals. There should be more to come. Ultimately, strikers thrive on scoring, and I'm content because the team generates opportunities for me. Although scoring every chance is unrealistic, I'm satisfied that most of my goals contribute to the team's success."
🗣️ Joselu: "My dream has always been to play at Real Madrid, no matter what number I wear. Being a Real Madrid player is the top. I would take the number 25 next season if it meant I'll still be here." pic.twitter.com/Ud88yM7jLA

Looking ahead, Joselu set himself a personal target - to improve on his last season's tally.
"I am happy with the number of goals; you can always contribute a few more, but I'm left with the fact that the majority of the goals I've scored have been for the team to score. I always try to improve on the previous season. Last year, I scored 17, and I hope this year I can score 18. If I score 18 goals, I think it's a pretty good number."
