Defender has been with the Slum Boys for the past six seasons

Lennox Ogutu has joined Nairobi City Stars from Mathare United and will be part of the Nicholas Muyoti team for the season after joining on a three-year contract, the club has confirmed.

The 24-year-old defender becomes the club's third signing for Simba wa Nairobi in the current transfer window after Dennis Wanjala and Mike Madoya joined the team from Nzoia Sugar and Tusker respectively

He will battle it out for a place in the team with the other defenders playing the same position as him with Salim Shitu Abdalla, Kenedy Vidic Onyango, Wycliffe Wiked Otieno as well as utility man Edwin Malebo Buliba.

The defender is elated after making the move and anticipating a good season with his new club and will don jersey number 27.

“It’s a new challenge being in a new home and I am looking forward to having a good season and helping the team achieve something,” the defender told the club.

City Stars team coordinator Samson Otieno notes that Lennox is a great addition to coach Muyoti's options in defence, lauding his qualities and more so his dead ball-handling abilities.

“Lennox adds the coach more selection options for the coach as well as solidify the backline. Other than his physicality and ball handling, Lennox is also well known for attending to dead balls which is an extra that he brings to the team. We welcome him on board,” the team coordinator said.

Ogutu was a household name at Mathare where he spent six seasons but the last one was a bit catastrophic for him as he topped it with a couple of own goals and blunders leading to goals in a season that Mathare United struggled to remain in the league.
