Leipzig destroys Borussia in front of 81.000 fans

The final result was 4-1 as the guests were totally dominant

Not good. Not good at all. Everything was set for Borussia’s triumph: an injured Erling Haaland made it to the first 11, the stadium was full after nearly two years due to Covid restrictions, but Marco Rose’s men simply couldn’t do it. They were weak, they were disorganized, they looked defensively fragile (again) and they lost deservedly: Borussia Dortmund – RB Leipzig 1-4.

This defeat means nothing for the title, since Borussia can’t catch up with Bayern, but they are now only 6 points in front of third placed Bayer Leverkusen, and with mindset like this, it could be an uneasy finish for the Millionaires. Home team blew up the chance to win against a strong opponent in front of the home crowd, and make them an embarrassing defeat from Rangers in the Europa League, but they did totally opposite – they embarrassed themselves in front of the 81.000 fans.

After 30 minutes of the match, it was already 2-0 for the visitors. RB Leipzig finally looks like the team which finished second in the Bundesliga last season under Julian Nagelsmann – strong in defense, dangerous in the counter attacks, and they showed it tonight, with an immense help from Emre Can. Borussia’s defender, one of the most experienced players in this team, a player who was a regular starter for Liverpool and Juventus is having a nightmare season with plenty of mistakes and tonight he had two of them.

He lost the ball on his own half, which lead to Leimer’s first goal, which was followed by his second goal, again with the help of Can, whose deflection tricked Kobel. But to be totally fair to the German international, his teammates from midfield and attack did nothing to help him with any goals, and what’s even worse - with any chances. Borussia had only one chance in the entire match. In fact, the only chance was also the goal, but it was too little too late, as it came in the 84rd minute. This team needs a total defensive rebuild come June.
